Metabolic Engineering of Microalgae (Chlamydomonas reinhardtii)
Recently, we have overcome an issue that limits transgene expression in the eukaryotic microalgaChlamydomonas reinhardtii. This breakthrough has opened the possibility of using this model microalga for high-level genetic and metabolic engineering concepts including: the production ofheterologous terpenoid products,modified fatty acids, andamino acid derivative high-value chemicals.
The Algae Biotechnology and Bioenergy Group at the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) in Bielefeld University is currently searching for motivated, high-level candidates to take on cutting-edge projects in the metabolic engineering ofChlamydomonas reinhardtii. We are searching for candidates with experience in some of these topics: synthetic biology, cloning, microalgae, bacteria and/or yeast engineering, plant or moss engineering, yeast artificial chromosome design, and molecular biology. We are especially interested in candidates with keen interest in sustainable technologies who can take initiative to help drive forward these concepts in a highly dynamic, young, and enthusiastic research environment.
