The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies of the University of Bielefeld has a vacancy for a

Professor of British Literary and Cultural Studies (W2)

to be filled as soon as possible.

Candidates should have a proven record on the subject British Literature and Cultural Studies in research and teaching in its cultural, geographical and historical amplitude. For this reason, at least one historical focus in English literary and cultural studies from the early modern period to the twentieth century is expected. Furthermore, in the interests of a research and teaching informed by philological and cultural studies, we expect an expertise in the contemporary critical theories and recent research paradigms, e.g. in the areas of postcoloniality and transculturality. Particular emphasis is put on areas of cultural contact in the (trans) Atlantic or anglophone language areas such as Africa, as well as the willingness to work comparatively in the field of literary studies. In addition, a sound competence in media studies and experience in university teaching must be proven.

The successful candidate will participate in teaching in all bachelor and master programs in the discipline Anglistik. We also expect participation in examinations, the willingness to participate in self-administration, and the readiness to cooperate with the other branches of British / American Studies and the other areas of the faculty, both in teaching and in the development of research projects and collaborative research applications.

According to § 36 HG NRW, the prerequisites for admission are a university degree in a relevant subject, a special qualification for academic work, which is to be demonstrated by the quality of the doctorate, pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by a corresponding educational background or exceptionally in the appointment procedure, as well as additional academic merits that are assessed exclusively and comprehensively on appeal.

The faculty considers gender equality as an important task to which the successful candidate will also contribute.
