  • Current call for proposals
The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at Bielefeld University is seeking to fill a vacancy of a

W2-Professorship for Children's and Youth Literature

at the earliest opportunity.

The professorship serves to strengthen the historical, systematic and theoretical research profile of children's and youth literature studies. At the same time, the professorship is associated with the task of further developing research activities in the field of historically and philologically oriented digital humanities in an interdisciplinary, cross-faculty and cross-location manner, thus also establishing the sub-discipline of corpus literature studies in research and teaching, which combines qualitative and quantitative methods of text and image analysis.

The holder of the position is accordingly distinguished in the research of German-language historical children's and youth literature from the 18th century to the present, proven by an outstanding dissertation and further publications. S/he has expertise in the field of digital humanities and in third-party fundraising. Experience in collaborative research is desired. In addition to historically oriented children's and youth literature research, s/he should have a profile in the field of current children's and youth media, and have teaching experience in academic teacher training, if possible including literature and media didactic courses.

In teaching, the position holder offers seminars on children's and youth literature/media in all teacher training courses and the Master's programme in Interdisciplinary Media Studies.

The prerequisites for recruitment are governed by § 36 HG (e.g. 1st state examination or Master of Education in German Studies and additional academic achievements, which are evaluated exclusively and comprehensively in the appointment procedure).

Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.

Bielefeld University has received a number of awards for its achievements in the provision of equal opportunity and has been recognized as a family-friendly university. The university welcomes applications from women. This is particularly true with regard both to academic and technical posts as well as positions in Information Technology and Craft.
