In addition to its international orientation, Bielefeld University has an excellent network in its city and region.

Bielefeld University is developing an innovative human medical school with an interdisciplinary medical orientation. The teaching and research activities are scheduled to start in the winter semester 2021/22. The clinical training will take place in cooperation with specialist clinics forming the University Hospital OWL, which is currently being established.
As a holder of one of the first professorships, you will be significantly involved in the planning and implementation of the human medicine model degree programme in accordance with ÄApprO (German medical licensing regulations) and have the opportunity to implement innovative concepts in medical training. Experience in the development and implementation of innovative teaching concepts is expressly desired. In particular, we expect a willingness to help develop the model study course and represent your subject in cooperation with other related disciplines.

You will also actively participate in developing the medical research profile of the University. A strong focus will be "medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases". We expect willingness to participate in the development of this research profile. In particular, we expect intensive cooperation in one of the research areas that is currently planned:
  • Brain, disability, participation
  • Intelligent systems, assistance, interprofessional networking
and/or in one of the medical research fields to be developed:
  • Microbial diversity in the human habitat
  • Data Science for medical care.
Working experiences in these areas will be an advantage.

You will work closely together with the founding dean, the dean's office and professors from other disciplines when setting up the Medical School OWL.
For this exciting task, Bielefeld University is looking for creative, ambitious and bold scientists. 

The positions will be filled in accordance with qualifications, experience and the personal requirements of the applicants – at the level W3, W2 or W2 with Tenure Track.

The teaching load covers 9 LVS in accordance with sect. 3 (1) No. 1 LVV (teaching responsibility regulation) from the beginning of the study programme. These requirements comply with sect. 36 HG (Higher Education Act).

The following prerequisites apply to the appointment of all professorships:
  • An outstanding and internationally conspicuous personality who can fully represent the respective subject in teaching and has excellent research achievements in the respective subject area
  • International publishing activities and experience in the acquisition and management of third-party funded projects
  • Ideally, experience in translational research
  • Willingness to contribute to the establishment of a strong research profile and to engage in research and teaching cooperations in the Medical School, but also across faculties
  • Willingness and motivation to help shape an innovative medical curriculum in the sense of a model study course according to ÄApprO (German medical licensing regulation)
  • Experience and commitment in supporting young people
  • Relevant teaching experience for the subject to be represented
  • Additional scientific achievements post doctorate in accordance with sect. 36 (1) no. 4 HG (Higher Education Act) NRW, which qualify one in taking over the professorship. 

The following professorships are to be filled as soon as possible:
 

I.    Theoretical Medicine

Professorship of Medical Psychology

In this position, you will be responsible for setting up the Department of Medical Psychology in research and teaching. In addition, participation in teaching in the field of medical sociology is expected. Essential prerequisites for an appointment are the ability to connect to the research profile - in particular to the planned research focus on brain, disability and participation and an eagerness for interdisciplinary cooperation with other faculties Bielefeld University – most particularly with psychology, health sciences and sociology as well as the clinical areas.

Your supplementary profile for the general requirements:

  • A university degree in psychology and/or human medicine, a relevant doctorate and additional scientific achievements as well as several years of relevant experience in the subject area to fully represent medical psychology in medical education
  • Special qualifications in brain research, disability and participation.


II.    Clinical-Theoretical Medicine

Professorship of Clinical Pharmacology

In this position you will be responsible for setting up the department of clinical pharmacology for research and teaching. This professorship is of great importance for the training of prospective physicians, for further education and for clinical research. The willingness to participate in an ethics committee and the readiness to lead an ethics committee are expected.

Your supplementary profile for the general requirements:

  • A university degree in human medicine, a relevant doctorate and additional scientific achievements as well as qualification as a pharmacologist and toxicologist or in clinical pharmacology and several years of relevant professional experience in the entire field of study
  • Proven experience in applied clinical-pharmacology and in monitoring of clinical trials
  • Willingness to advise on the clinical disciplines in the university's collaborative hospitals and research as well as teaching practices
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education and training activities in the areas of clinical trials, drug safety and pharmacological monitoring and
  • Readiness to provide pharmacological advice and support for clinical trials.

Professorship of Clinical Legal Medicine

In this position, you will be responsible for setting up the department for research and teaching. You will also set up and undertake teaching both for the field of legal medicine as well as the medical legal and professional customers. Furthermore, you will develop application-oriented research in the field of legal medicine, closely linked to the research priorities of the future Medical School. The tasks of the professorship duties include establishing of a forensic outpatient clinic for victims of violence to improve a gender-sensitive investigation of the consequences of violence.

Your supplementary profile for the general requirements:

  • A university degree in human medicine, a relevant doctorate and additional scientific achievements in forensic medicine as well as a qualification as a specialist in forensic medicine and several years of professional experience in the field
  • Sound knowledge and research experience in the field of forensic morphology, anthropology, molecular biology and toxicology
  • Experience in gender-sensitive violence research. 

Professorship for (Bio-) Statistics and Medical Biometry

In this position, you will be responsible for setting up the department in research and teaching. Bielefeld University places a high value on sound methodological knowledge for medical training. Accordingly, the professor is expected to be involved in future-oriented methodological training both in the developmental phase and in the implementation of the Medical Biometry/(Bio-) Statistics Model Course using clinical examples/studies and evidence-based medicine (EBM) content. In terms of research in interdisciplinary methods development, the professorship also plays an important role in dealing with large datasets. Participation in the development of a strong profile in the field of data science for medical care is required just as much as the participation and interdisciplinary networking in the Bielefeld Centre for Data Science (BiCDaS) and the Centre for Statistics. The job profile also includes the methodological consulting of scientists and students as well as participation in the ethics committee.

  • A subject-relevant university degree, a relevant doctorate and additional scientific achievements as well as several years' relevant work experience in the subject area
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of statistical and epidemiological methods as well as broad experience in applied data analysis, particularly in dealing with large amounts of data
  • Experience in the conception and evaluation of clinical studies
  • Relevant teaching experience in biometrics, statistics and epidemiology in the field of medical education as well as experience in methodological consulting for students and scientists
  • Responsibility for the relevant method consulting of colleagues of the faculty in the preparation, execution and evaluation of medical studies
  • Willingness to advise on the design and later evaluation of studies in the context of doctoral studies.

Professorship of Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene

In this position, you will be responsible for setting up the department in research and teaching. In particular, a focus in the area of infection prevention is desired. The professorship plays an important role in the further development of the perspective field "Microbial Diversity in the Human Habitat" and possibly also for the planned research focus "Brain, Disability, Participation". In addition to networking with the scientific and clinical fields, close cooperation with the Faculty of Health Sciences is expected. An additional qualification in public health is therefore expressly desired, as well as participation in the MRE network East-Westphalia (mre-owl.net).
An interdisciplinary network with the Centre for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) is expected, especially regarding the use of genomic, post-genomic and bioinformatic methods.
A competitive laboratory infrastructure is available. The central animal facility at the university allows biomedical research on small mammals according to international standards. Further analytical and methodological competences, e.g. high-resolution microscopic methods, are established at Bielefeld University.

Your supplementary profile for the general requirements:

  • A subject-relevant university degree, a relevant doctorate and additional scientific achievements as well as several years' relevant work experience in the subject area
  • A qualification for medical microbiology, virology, and infection epidemiology
  • A qualification as a specialist in hygiene and environmental medicine or long experience in the field of hospital hygiene
  • Willingness to advise on the clinical disciplines in the university's collaborative hospitals and research and teaching practices
  • Ideally an additional qualification in public health

Professorship of Human Genetics

In this position, you will be responsible for building a bridge between clinical medicine and interdisciplinary basic research and teaching in the field. High commitment in teaching and research - with a direct link to health care - is expected. The establishment and management of a service unit with a wide range of services for patients and their attending physicians is expressly desired. What is also expected is a concept for integrating the subject into future research areas/profile fields - in particular for medicine for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
Interdisciplinary networking with the Centre for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) is expected, particularly regarding the use of genomic, post-genomic and bioinformatic methods.
There is a competitive laboratory infrastructure available. The central animal facility at the university allows biomedical research on small mammals in accordance with international standards. Further analytical and methodological competences, e.g. high-resolution microscopic methods, are established at Bielefeld University.

Professorship of Gender Medicine

In this position, you will be responsible for the field of gender medicine in research and teaching. The professorship is of particular importance for innovative topic setting and profiling in gender-based research and teaching, in particular for the field of gender-sensitive prevention and health services research, e.g. through the analysis and processing of qualitative and quantitative data. The prerequisite for this professorship is the willingness to actively participate in designated or future interdisciplinary research areas of the Medical School and other medical research topics. In addition to your own gender-related research, the professorship also has an advisory role for clinical and resident colleagues in designing of research questions related to gender issues. Both in terms of one's own research activities and advisory role, broad clinical networking is required. Regarding to medical education, the substantive and structural anchoring of gender aspects in the medical curriculum and their long-term implementation in the model study course are expected

  • Experience in outpatient or inpatient care in a subject relevant to gender medicine
