The Faculty of Technology at Bielefeld University, Germany, invites applications for an

Assistant Professorship (W1) in Computer Science, especially Algorithm Science

starting as soon as possible.

We are seeking a highly qualified computer scientist working in the field of algorithm science, linking the theory of algorithms and algorithm engineering. Research should focus on mathematical models and the analysis of algorithms’ behavior in order to explain and understand their observed performance in the tradition of inductive sciences. We aim at developing the underlying methodology itself but also at studying the typical behavior (runtime, memory consumption) of practical approaches from areas such as
-    bioinformatics
-    machine learning
-    fundamental algorithms and data structures

The contract will initially be for three years, with the possibility of extension for another three years, given a positive intermediate evaluation.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in computer science or in a related field. They should demonstrate a strong research record and appropriate teaching experience.
The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in Algorithms & Data Structures on undergraduate level.

The prerequisites for employment are determined by § 36 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of North Rhine Westphalia.

Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.
