From 2022, there will be a new portfolio with different prices and new phone models. Instructions are still available for the older devices (6945, 8945, ATA).

Telephony

BITS operates the university's central telephone system. With so-called Voice over IP (VoIP), telephone calls run via the university's intranet.

In addition to the classic, physical phones on the desk, it is also possible to make calls directly via the computer using Cisco Jabber and the university's central telephony service.

BITS is currently expanding this alternative use and is gradually making it available to various areas of the university. It is currently available for Windows/Mac IT workstations provided by BITS and for employees in participating Faculties. Please contact the IT Department Assistants to find out whether your Faculty offers the softphone.

CCMUser (Cisco Unified Communications - User Portal)

The Cisco VoIP phones offer a wide range of functionalities such as speed dial keys, personal phone book or call forwarding. Thanks to special software called CCMUser, these functions can be accessed quickly and conveniently. To use CCMUser, a so-called UMS account is required. After notification of the approval of the UMS account by e-mail, it can take several hours until a second e-mail is sent with the message: "Approval for CCMUSER approved". Only at this point it is possible to use the CCMUser approval.

If you find it too tedious to enter the phone number via the telephone keypad, you can also enter and dial it on the PC. This is possible thanks to another function of the CCMUser, the Webdialer.

UMS (Unified Messaging Services)

Unified Messaging Services (UMS) or Unified Messaging (UM) refers to the integration of different message types such as e-mail, voice mail (answering machine) and fax on a common platform. All information received is stored in an (e-mail) mailbox and can be managed quickly and conveniently from there - even while on the road.
