Photosynthesis in its three varieties, such as C3 photosynthesis, C4 photosynthesis and CAM, is responsible for almost the entire storage of sunlight in organic carbon compounds. C4 photosynthesis is a highly efficient and productive metabolic pathway. We use both comparative transcriptome analysis and modeling in order to determine the necessary genes and to understand their interaction with each other. Ultimately, we intend to reconstruct the metabolic pathway with the help of synthetic biology.
