A New Rationalism? Thought Experiments, Modal Knowledge and the Analysis of Concepts

This is my second book (for the first, see 'publications'), and my first book in English. It has been submitted and accepted as Habilitationsschrift at Bielefeld University in mid-2007. I intend to revise and rework it, so it won't be ready for publication before mid- to end-2014. I haven't approached a publisher yet.

The book is on the prospects and limits of armchair philosophy. I defend the claim that armchair philosophy works because it, pace Quine, Kripke, and Williamson, is best understood to be a variety of conceptual analysis. To learn more, see the (provisional) table of content and introduction.

Mein zweites Buch (für das erste siehe 'Publikationen') - und mein erstes auf Englisch. Das Buch ist im Oktober 2007 an der Universitat Bielefeld als Habilitationsschrift angenommen worden. Ich werde es gründlich und umfassend überarbeiten, so dass es nicht vor Mitte bis Ende 2014 publikationsreif sein dürfte. Der Verlag steht noch nicht fest.
Gegenstand des Buches ist die Frage, ob und inwieweit sich Philosophie a priori als Lehnstuhlunternehmen betreiben lässt. Ich argumentiere dafür - gegen u.A. Quine, Kripke und Williamson - dass Philosophie als a priori Unterfangen deswegen funktioniert, weil eine bestimmte Variante der Begriffsanalyse epistemisch erfolgversprechend ist.
