Founded in 2004, the Bielefeld Institute for Biophysics and Nanoscience (BINAS) at Bielefeld University brings together activities in the fields of nanoscience and biophysics. Its members are Prof. Dr. Dario Anselmetti (Experimental Biophysics), Prof. Dr. Armin Gölzhäuser (Physics of Supramolecular Systems and Surfaces), Prof. Dr. Thomas Huser (Biomolecular Photonics), Sen.-Prof. Dr. Günter Reiss and Prof. Dr. Andreas Hütten (Thin Films and Physics of Nanostructures), Prof. Dr. Walter Pfeiffer (Ultrafast Science) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Hellweg (Physical and Biophysical Chemistry). Nanosciences and biophysics are modern, IT-relevant fields of research in which traditional disciplinary boundaries increasingly need to be overcome. BINAS therefore works on an interdisciplinary basis with researchers from Biology, Chemistry and the Faculty of Technology at Bielefeld University. Through its cooperation with the Chambers of Industry and Commerce of Ostwestfalen zu Bielefeld and Lippe zu Detmold, BINAS plays a prominent role in knowledge and technology transfer, is available to interested companies as a contact for technological questions and problems and drives forward joint research and development projects. Last but not least, BINAS also aims to conduct a dialogue with society and politics on the opportunities and risks of new research.
