Visual AI for Extended Reality

Have you used virtual and augmented reality? Except for short tech demos demonstrating the devices' impressive display capabilities, I haven't. That's because a technological leap is required to make them truly practical. To immerse the user in an extended reality (XR), future devices must better understand the user's intentions and interaction with the virtual and real worlds.

My aim for the Visual AI for Extended Reality research group is to make XR practical in entertainment and beyond, including
healthcare, industrial applications, and casual telepresence.
To this end, the group advances 3D computer vision, machine learning, and computer graphics towards improved and real-time reconstruction. The team tailors algorithms for the best human experience and develops privacy-preserving variants for sensitive areas, such as smart home applications.

The socioeconomic environment is, unfortunately, still a strong predictor for educational degrees and academic success.
