In cooperation with the Faculties of Business Administration and Economics, Mathematics and Physics and the Center for Mathematical Economics, the BGTS offers scientific event grants to doctoral candidates, who are planning to attend and actively participate in a conference, workshop or summer school. The aim of these grants is to enable the candidates' engagement with the international scientific community, allow them to keep in touch with recent developments and further their scientific education at other institutions and venues.

Grants are awarded for the duration of the participation in conferences, workshops or summer schools. The executive board may decide to restrict funding to a shorter period of time than the full length of the event.
The scientific event shall take place within 12 months after the application deadline.

The BGTS Conference Grant consists of a subsidy up to 1.500 € to the costs of participating in an eligible scientific event, possibly complementing existing funding. These costs may include travel, accomodation and fees. Payment in advance is possible to a large extent. The grant holder is required to present proof of costs to the BGTS office. Costs not incurred have to be paid back, if an advance payment has been made. (Foreign) health insurance can not be reimbursed. Travel Expense Rules of the University and the Landesreisekostengesetz NRW may apply.

Eligible for application: Doctoral students in the BGTS. In justified exceptional cases also Master students who are in the final phase of their studies can be proposed by their Master supervisor.

To be eligible, students must actively participate in the event, e.g. by contributing a talk or a poster.
