LitKom - "richtig einsteigen."

with literal skills

LitKom is part of the programme richtig einsteigen. which supports first-year students in quickly arriving at university, making social contacts and understanding and coping with the academic requirements.

LitKom focuses on strengthening reading and writing skills. The central assumption is that if students write continuously during their studies under guidance and with (peer) feedback, they benefit twice: academically through a deeper engagement with study content and personally through the strengthening of reading and writing skills. The Faculty of Sociology is involved in this programme with a variety of offers that support students in finding their way into the thinking and writing collectives of sociology and political science.

Niklas Luhmann (1992) also drew attention to the importance of writing and writing-oriented teaching in particular. In his book "University as Milieu" he remarks: "Without writing, one cannot think; at least not in a sophisticated, connectable way" (ibid.: 53). In his famous note box, there is also the following note:

On the one hand, LitKom aims to develop, implement and sustainably disseminate concepts for writing-oriented teaching-learning arrangements. On the other hand, LitKom offers training and advisory services that are oriented towards the diverse needs of students. For example, handouts and exercises are available that are useful for finding topics, researching literature, formulating outlines or observing formal aspects (e.g. citation style, compiling a bibliography) in the context of written work. In addition, workshops on writing essays, term papers and theses are offered. These are also aimed specifically at advanced students and students on the International Track.

Office Hours

Consultation hours are open for individual advice on topics related to academic reading and writing. After making an appointment, you can clarify your questions, e.g. "How do I find suitable literature for my term paper?", "How do I write an essay?" or "Which strategies are suitable for effective reading of specialised texts?". In addition, you will receive advice on supplementary offers from the Centre for Teaching and Learning (ZLL). Of course, you can also attend several consultation appointments, for example, to have the process of writing your term paper accompanied.
