Psychology and Exercise

The profile "Psychology and Exercise" trains students to work in the areas of exercise-related counselling and intervention and emphasizes the development of expertise in the fields of physical activity and sports psychology. The program prepares students for careers with sports organizations and institutions geared to professional or amateur sport, providers of health services and sport and exercise therapy, and enterprises forming part of the leisure sector that offer exercise-related activities. Students develop an understanding of the psychological, psychosomatic and cognitive components of physical activity and sport. The degree program focuses strongly on strategies for systematically influencing engagement in physical activity that are derived from these elements. Students develop the capability to assess, explain and predict exercise habits and experiences. This diagnostic competence enables them to deploy exercise as a form of psychological and motor intervention. Alumni possess a sound knowledge of the thematic fields of sports psychology, movement organization, motor learning, and training management and are capable of developing structured interventions to systematically influence engagement in physical activity on this basis. Theoretical concepts are drawn on to address the special characteristics of different spheres of action in sports science. These different areas are also explored further in the context of internships. Expertise in the areas of sports economics and sport program management enables students to assess exercise intervention concepts in terms of their economic feasibility.

Students who have acquired the Bachelor degree in the profile "Psychology and Exercise" have the opportunity to continue their studies in the Master program "Intelligence and Motion". In this Master degree program scientific and cognitive scientific bases of human action are imparted, combined with methods of movement and memory analysis and reprocessed for new technical solutions ( e. g. in robotic or in competitive sports and rehabilitation).
