On 5 May 2022 Dr. Markus Konkol, Open Science Office of the University of Twente talked about the Open Science approaches at his university:
Open Science (OS) is an umbrella term comprising principles to increase the transparency of research. Besides Open Access to scientific articles, these principles contain public availability of reusable methods (e.g., code and tools), data, and educational materials. OS can help to advance the scientific field and increase the impact on society, which is particularly important in times of climate change and pandemics. Despite these benefits, OS is rarely done in practice and often perceived as a burden. In this talk, I will outline five initiatives to realise the transition towards OS at the Faculty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). These initiatives address cultural and technical obstacles around OS, considering the needs of different actors involved in a scholarly environment, including authors, readers, reviewers, lecturers, and students.
