Application procedure

There are two types of application: short applications and full applications.

Short applications allow a simplified and faster procedure compared to full applications. The type of application required is determined on the basis of certain key aspects relating to the research. Short applications are possible if the project does not involve any ethically sensitive aspects.

Preparation of application documents with the Ehtiktool

• direct access to the Ethiktool
• the Ethiktool collects the necessary information and documents for the ethics review in a dialog-based and case-specific manner
• it automatically provides feedback whether a short or full application is required
• the scope of the information collected is automatically determined by the type of application
• the participant information is generated by the Ethiktool, if applicable/necessary
• bilingual design (German/English), language can be changed at any time

• short applications:
  (all responses to the statements in the basic questionnaire are marked white)
  • basic Questionnaire in English
• full applications:
  (answer to at least one statement in the basic questionnaire is marked grey)
  • basic Questionnaire in English
  • detailed Questionnaire in English
  • if applicable: participant information (German templates available on the German website, English templates upon request)
  • if applicable: questionnaires/interview guides.

Submission

Applications must be submitted by e-mail to the EUB office (ethikkommission@uni-bielefeld.de).

When submitting an application using the Ethiktool:
Please submit only the file named “[Application name]_Complete application_[Date].pdf” and the XML file to the Ethics Committee. 

When using the forms:
Please submit all application documents merged into a single PDF document.

For student work (including doctoral theses), the supervisor must be included in the correspondence with the EUB.

If it is necessary to submit documents that cannot be sent in PDF format (e.g. video material), please attach them separately in electronic form or send three copies to the EUB Office, marked with the name of the applicant.

Application forms will usually not be returned to the applicants. One copy will be archived for 10 years.
