The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB) a

Professorship for Pediatric Surgery (W3)

as an executive position at the earliest possible date.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative faculty of human medicine with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Hospital OWL (UK OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, is established. Teaching begins in the winter semester of 2021/22. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as an opportunity and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine, as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs and will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching and medical education. At the same time, you will play a decisive role in establishing an inter-/nationally competitive research profile: Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases. The call aims at personalities with a nationally and internationally visible research profile who can represent the field in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are

  • long and broad clinical experience
  • comprehensive experience in the entire field of surgical and conservative pediatric surgery, including the care of children and adolescents with disabilities.
  • high-ranking scientific achievements in pediatric surgery, reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • connectivity to the medical research profile
  • extensive teaching experience for the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the promotion of young talents and the promotion of women
  • a special qualification in the surgical care of premature and newborn infants, congenital malformations and especially in endocrine surgery in infancy and early childhood
  • experience in the management of a supra-regional pediatric surgical center in close collaboration with pediatrics
  • relevant specialist qualification, doctorate in (pediatric) urology, and the additional scientific achievements according to § 36 para. 1; no. 4 HG NRW in pediatric surgery.

In addition to comprehensive experience in university medicine and the leadership of a multinational team, a long-term research concept for the development and establishment of projects in the research fields that actively contribute to the development of the university's medical research profile is expected. This applies in particular to research projects in the field of digital medicine, health care research, the conduct of controlled clinical trials, and the scientific study of the molecular biological characterization of childhood tumors. Special attention is given to the development of virtually assisted rehabilitation procedures after fractures.

As the holder of this position, you will be the Head Physician of the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of the EvKB at the Bielefeld-Bethel Campus of the UK OWL. The clinic is responsible for 30 beds, performs > 2,000 interventions and manages and organizes interdisciplinary the operational business in close collaboration with the professorships of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine. Full authorization for further training in pediatric surgery is required, as well as authorization to participate in the accident insurance association's transit physician procedure.

Close cooperation and networking with all surgical and conservative disciplines of the Campus Bielefeld-Bethel, especially within the Perinatal Center Level I of the EvKB, and the other two institutions of the UK OWL is expected. In the sense of translational research, the professorship is to establish projects with practicing physicians as well as with representatives of the various health care professions in the region, in addition to research topics in the clinical area. According to these tasks, a team-oriented leader with proven relevant leadership experience as well as very good communication and coordination skills is sought.

The tasks within the scope of patient care are regulated by a chief physician contract with the EvKB. For the performance of the tasks of the professorship, generally provided a private-law employment contract with the university.

The teaching load of the clinical professorships comprises 4 LVS in accordance with § 5 para. 3 LVV from the start of the study program. The requirements for employment are based on § 36 HG.
