The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Klinikum Bielefeld a

Professorship for Emergency Medicine (W2 TT W3)

at the earliest possible date. Associated with the position is the Center Director of Anesthesiology, Surgical Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Pain Therapy at the Bielefeld Campus Hospital.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative faculty of human medicine with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Hospital OWL (UK OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, is established. Teaching begins in the winter semester of 2021/22. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as an opportunity and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. We offer an exciting environment that opens up a wide range of possibilities. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine, as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs and will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching and medical education. At the same time, you will play a decisive role in establishing an inter-/nationally competitive research profile: Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases. The call aims at personalities with an already promising research profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are  

  • broad and long-term clinical experience in the field, including extensive and long-term practical experience as a senior emergency physician in the rescue service,specialist qualification in anesthesiology; additional training in intensive care and emergency medicine; qualification as a head emergency physician; successful completion of qualification as medical director of rescue services is also desirable,relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • promisingly scientific achievements in emergency medicine reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • relevant teaching experience in emergency medicine; also desired are experience in coordinating teaching in a model medical school program and in designing and implementing innovative teaching projects,experience and active involvement in the promotion of young scientists.

The professorship for emergency medicine to be filled is part of the inter-holder planned specialist hospital network for anesthesiology and intensive care medicine of the UK OWL.

You will scientifically take up the focus of clinical care in the field of emergency medicine at the Campus Klinikum Bielefeld and develop it further. You will also collaborate with the supraregional trauma center at the Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel and the professorship for anesthesiology and intensive care medicine there. Of particular interest is a scientific focus on crisis preparedness and response to health emergencies in the context of the expanding spectrum of demands on emergency medicine at the interface with disaster and crisis management, emergency planning, and civil defense. In doing so, you will also set telemedicine-relevant priorities for the clinical-scientific advancement of emergency medicine.

As the holder of this position, you will be responsible for the management and results of the clinical, personnel, and economic development of the Center for Anesthesiology, Surgical Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Pain Therapy at Campus Klinikum Bielefeld in a specialist and interdisciplinary context. You are supported by the chief physician of the section of anesthesiology and operative intensive care medicine. The Bielefeld Clinic, with 3 locations and 2 MVZs, is a municipal hospital and a member of the Alliance of Large Municipal Hospitals in Germany. It is responsible for the clinical diagnosis, therapy, and care of 50.000 inpatients and 100.000 outpatients annually. A new building project is currently being implemented at the Bielefeld-Mitte Clinic site to create a new central emergency room, admission, and intensive care units. As the holder of this position, you will assume a coordinating clinical and technical leadership role.

We expect networking with other UK OWL clinics, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice in the region. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.

For the appeal applies:

A private-law employment contract with the University is envisaged for the performance of the duties of the professorship. The requirements for employment follow § 36 HG. The tasks within patient care, including the right to liquidation, will be regulated via a contract for chief physicians with the Klinikum Bielefeld.

The W2 tenure variant is initially limited to five years but designed with a tenure-track option after W3. The removal of the time limit follows within a positive evaluation based on a target agreement Applicants for the W2 tenure-track position must have already developed promising research profiles during their postdoc phase.
