Bielefeld University is a comprehensive university outstanding in its teaching and research activities having an international reputation and offering innovative teaching concepts. With about 3,500 employees and 25,000 students, Bielefeld University currently encompasses 14 faculties, including - among other disciplines - natural and technical sciences as well as medicine. The education of future teachers is an important task of the university.
The position holder represents the didactics of biology in research and teaching. The research focus should be on a current field of biology didactics and contribute to the professionalisation of the education of teachers. The Faculty of Biology attaches great importance to the quality of teaching and supervision of students. The teaching duties of the position holder include the entire subject-didactic education of students in the subject of biology for teaching positions at secondary modern schools, middle schools, secondary schools and comprehensive schools as well as grammar schools and integrated comprehensive schools.
The ability and willingness for theory-based and practice-related teaching with regard to modern biological methods is expected. Desirable fields of activity in teaching and research are e.g. the teutolabs, the school garden or the biological collection. The position holder is also expected to contribute to the research networks of the Faculty of Biology and the Bielefeld School of Education in terms of content and strategy.
The requirements for appointment are based on § 36 HG (including additional academic achievements, which are evaluated exclusively and comprehensively in the appointment procedure). The applicant should have teaching experience at schools and universities. For example, a successfully completed teaching practice (teacher training) is expected. Relevant and internationally visible research work in the field of biology didactics is expected. Furthermore, experience in the acquisition of third-party funding is required. It is also required that the applicant can give lectures in German.
The W2 position is initially limited to five years, with subsequent transfer to a permanent W3 professorship in accordance with the statutes for the implementation of tenure track procedures in the event of a positive evaluation in the final year.
