The Medical School EWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Klinikum Lippe a
Professorship for AI-Assisted Biomarker Research – Focus on Integrated Diagnostics (W2)
at the earliest possible date. Thereby associated is the position as senior physician at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology.
At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe (UMC EWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.
The prerequisites are
- specialist qualification in radiology,
- relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW,
- excellent scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding,
- broad clinical experience in the field of diagnostic radiology (especially multiparametric MRI) and in the interdisciplinary implementation of radiological-clinical biomarker studies as well as leadership experience,
- experience in the validation of classification algorithms,
- connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School EWL,
- extensive and innovative teaching experience for the subject to be represented,
- experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists.
The Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology provides the full range of radiological services for the patients of the Klinikum Lippe. At the department, the academic center for imaging diagnostics and image-guided therapy in the EWL region is being established with scientific focus on integrated diagnostics, personalized precision diagnostics and translational imaging research. In addition, with the expansion of the UMC EWL, scientifically qualified, clinical sections will be established at the department.
Within the framework of the advertised professorship, the focus will be on research into the diagnostic precision of qualitative and quantitative radiological biomarkers for malignant and benign diseases. Machine learning and artificial intelligence methods will be applied.
We expect the ability to critically review findings on diagnostic performance in order to be able to transfer them into clinical routine in an evidence-based manner.
In the diagnostic center of the clinic, the diagnostic disciplines are intensively networked. Within this framework, knowledge of the co-registration of different imaging techniques with each other as well as the co-registration of imaging with, for example, tissue sections is desirable for the validation of researched biomarkers.
We expect networking with other departments of the UMC EWL, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice in the region. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.
