The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Campus Bielefeld-Bethel (CBB) a

Professorship for Mental Disorders and Social Neurosciences (W2)

at the earliest possible date.
The professorship is associated with the therapeutic department management.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe (UMC EWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. We offer an exciting environment that opens up a wide range of opportunities. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases". The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are:

  • license to practice as a psychological psychotherapist in cognitive behavioral therapy
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements in clinical and non-clinical neuroscientific research on (neuro)psychiatric and psychosomatic disorders, which are reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • experience in leading scientific working groups and clinical units
  • many years of clinical work with proven management experience in a clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy
  • completed training as a supervisor (KVT) at a recognized institute and several years’ experience as a supervisor
  • additional qualification in neuropsychology (GNP) with recognition by a state chamber of psychotherapists
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • extensive teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists.

The Department for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Campus Bielefeld-Bethel (CBB) is a very large hospital in the region and in the UMC OWL with 436 beds and day hospital places (incl. inpatient-equivalent treatment) designated in the hospital plan and a large outpatient clinic and serves the entire city of Bielefeld in the sense of an Epidemiologic Catchment Area. The spectrum of the clinic covers psychiatry and psychotherapy in its entire breadth and is organized in specialist focus areas. Further information can be found at

Clinical and preclinical research is to be further expanded and implemented within the framework of a structural and development concept for the department that will be developed with your participation. A further expansion of clinical-translational as well as the expansion of participation- oriented research is expected. In addition to the structures of the clinic’s own research department, the establishment of an interdisciplinary neuro-core facility is planned; a neuromodulation unit is currently being set up in cooperation with the Department for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy of the CBB as well as the Leibniz Institute for Work Research at the TU Dortmund University (IFADO). Experience in relevant scientific and clinical review activities, participation in national and international societies and committees and experience in planning, managing and conducting preclinical and clinical studies are desirable.

We expect networking with other departments of the UMC OWL as well as the medical community in private practice in the region. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.
