The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Campus Bielefeld-Bethel (CBB) a

Professorship for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (W3)

as of 1st January 2025.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe (UMC EWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. We offer an exciting environment that opens up a wide range of opportunities. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases". The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are:

  • specialist qualification for psychiatry and psychotherapy
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • high-ranking scientific achievements in clinical and out-of-hospital intervention research, in the field of psychosocial care research and public health, reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • extensive clinical experience in the field of expertise as well as leadership experience, especially in general psychiatry and psychotherapy and/ or in the area of dependent behavior
  • experience in planning, managing and conducting clinical studies
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • extensive teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

Desirable are:

  • additional scientific achievements in the field of cognitive neuroscience
  • experience in national/ international collaborative research
  • a social or community psychiatric orientation

As the holder of this position, you will be responsible for the management of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at EvKB, which serves the entire city of Bielefeld in the sense of an "Epidemiological Catchment Area" (https://evkb.de/kliniken-zentren/psyche-nerven/psychiatrie-und-psychotherapie/ueber-uns/). The clinic's spectrum covers psychiatry and psychotherapy in its entire breadth, and is organized in specialized focus areas (including gerontological psychiatry). There is a community psychiatric orientation with numerous cooperation partners and participation in multiple committees of the city. The psychotherapy and neuropsychiatric-neuropsychological emphases are also strong. Close clinical cooperation exists with the areas of expertise in neuromedicine and inclusive medicine at Campus Bielefeld-Bethel.

You will participate in the design of a structural and development concept for the department to refine and implement clinical research. The aim is to further expand neuroscientific, clinical- translational and care-oriented public mental health research. We also expect the further development of care with an increasingly outpatient orientation, as well as networking with other departments of the UMC OWL, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice in the region.
Accordingly, we are looking for an outstanding personality with excellent communication and coordination skills. You bring a clear vision for the envisaged focus of research "Brain - Impairment - Participation" and will be a pacesetter in its inter/national establishment. As the holder of this position, you will motivate colleagues to develop joint research projects and to collaborate in research profile-building overarching projects in order to successfully acquire intra-faculty and cross-faculty collaborative projects.

For the appeal applies:

A private-law employment contract with the University is envisaged for the performance of the duties of the professorship. The requirements for employment follow § 36 HG.
The tasks within patient care, including the right to liquidation, will be regulated via a contract for chief physicians with the EvKB.
