The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Department for People with Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Campus Bielefeld-Bethel (CBB) a

Professorship for Human-Environment Interaction for Disorders of Intellectual Development (W2)

at the earliest possible date.
The professorship is associated with a permanent senior physician or senior psychologist position.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching.

At the only Department for People with Neurodevelopmental Disorders in Germany, you will have the opportunity to play a significant role in establishing a research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases" that is interconnectable and competitive on an inter/national level.

The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are:

  • completed studies in psychology (diploma/master’s degree) or human medicine (license to practice medicine)
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements in human-environment interaction and neuropsychology/neurocognition in clinical and out-of-hospital research in mental/neuropsychiatric disorders, reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • broad clinical experience in the area of expertise as well as leadership experience
  • experience in planning, managing and conducting clinical trials and health services research
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • extensive teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists.

Desired further:

  • additional qualification in psychotherapy (psychological or medical)
  • experience in cooperation with clinically active medical and psychological colleagues in the neuroscientific and psychiatric-psychosomatic fields
  • Participation in scientific societies/committees

With 66 beds, a large specialist outpatient clinic and an MZEB, the Department for People with Neurodevelopmental Disorders is a center for the medical treatment of people with intelligence development disorders and has a complex somatic and psychiatric treatment program. Internal, surgical, psychiatric and neurological specialists work together on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Interdisciplinary ward rounds, case discussions and further training events provide an appropriate framework for interdisciplinary and multiprofessional cooperation. The candidate is expected to contribute to the emerging structural and developmental concept of the Department for the expansion of clinical-translational and health services research in the field of mental health of people with disorders of intellectual development. In this context, questions concerning the optimization of the human-environment interaction are to be decisive, which focus on the interactions of persons with cognitive impairment and their environment, taking into account the respective functional limitations and living conditions. The aim is to enable consistency of personal life motives and social participation, taking into account the functionally relevant disability, but also the respective social structures and family goals. This approach, which amounts to systemic therapy and intervention research, is to be transferred to local structures for treatment and participation in the course of the project.

We expect networking with other departments of the UMC OWL, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice in the region. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.
