The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Microbiology and Clinical Pathobiochemistry at Klinikum Lippe a

Professorship for Physical and Digital Laboratory Medicine (W2)

at the earliest possible date.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. We offer an exciting environment that opens up a wide range of opportunities. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases".

The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are:

  • science degree or degree in human medicine
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • broad scientific experience in the field of expertise with a focus on medical research and leadership experience
  • programming complex analysis and forecasting methods
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • extensive teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

Desirable:

  • experience in a laboratory medical environment and with clinical decision support systems
  • knowledge of modeling techniques and learning algorithms for the interpretation of complex spectroscopic results in the context of clinical data and molecular interactions
  • teaching experience in medicine
  • experience in industry, with biotech start-ups and/ or patent applications

As the holder of this position, you will develop a research program for the application and development of mathematical and bioinformatic algorithms for the early detection and diagnosis of diseases as well as for the selection and optimization of corresponding therapies. The aim of this program is to be part of the establishment of precision medicine and personalized medicine. Methods for the integration and evaluation of complex data from a wide variety of sources will be of importance (clinical and laboratory information systems, Raman and infrared measurements and other spectroscopic methods, gene sequencing and structural biology data). Publications on the development of scientific software at the interface of biophysics and medicine are expected.
Your teaching activities should take into account aspects of physics, statistics and medical informatics based on laboratory medicine. You will also set up and manage the Devision Physical and Digital Laboratory Medicine at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Microbiology and Clinical Pathobiochemistry. The focus here will be on translation into clinical care.

Networking with the other clinics of the University Medical Center OWL, with other faculties of Bielefeld University as well as a high level of willingness to address age-, gender- und diversity- related issues to improve care practice are also expected. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience and expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.
