The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill a

Professorship for translational research and health services research in general practice with a focus on multimorbidity (W2)

at the earliest possible date.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases".

The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are:

  • University degree in medicine, public health or a related field
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • the special ability and willingness for interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration
  • innovative research in primary care health services research with a focus on chronic diseases with multimorbidity or polypharmacy
  • Broad methodological expertise in the application of various study designs to clinical and epidemiological questions as well as implementation research in the primary care setting
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • extensive teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

Desirable are:

  • additional epidemiological qualification
  • knowledge and experience in the development and maintenance of research infrastructures in the outpatient setting
  • experience in analyzing complex and large amounts of data (research and health services data)
  • experience in interprofessional teaching and in teaching of clinical epidemiology and evidence- based medicine

General Practice and Family Medicine is particularly engaged in primary care health services research with a focus on multimorbidity and polypharmacy as well as in medical education and specialist training in general practice. As the holder of the position, you will lead the development and professionalization of an academic General Practice Research Network (GPRN) in close cooperation with the Department of General Practice and Family Medicine. The GPRN facilitates participatory approaches involving patients as well as GPs and their practice teams and cooperates with established inter/national GPRNs (e.g. HAFO.NRW and DESAM-ForNet) as well as the translational research network of the university. You will develop a sustainable concept for research projects that combine intra- and intersectoral health services research, clinical and, if appropriate, biomedical research in the sense of a complete translation. The research concept must take into account the special features of the setting with decentralized, independent practices in rural areas and the associated structural and procedural requirements that enable reliable data collection and, if necessary, biomaterial sampling. You are also responsible for the development and evaluation of innovative teaching concepts and content, which particularly aim at implementing evidence-based practice in medical education and specialist training. You will support the General Practice and Family Medicine of the Medical School OWL, which provides competencies in the scientific thinking and acting in addition to subject-specific content in the model course in human medicine, and is involved as a partner location in the Kompetenzzentrum Weiterbildung Allgemeinmedizin Westfalen-Lippe (KWWL).

We expect you to closely collaborate with the medical community in private practice in the region, the clinical departments of the UMC OWL, the theoretical disciplines of the Medical School OWL as well as other faculties of Bielefeld University as part of the overall concept of the Medical School OWL. Accordingly, we are looking for a team-oriented personality with proven research, teaching and leadership experience as well as excellent communication and coordination skills.

For the appeals applies:

A private-law employment contract with the University is envisaged for the performance of the duties of the professorship. The teaching load generally includes 9 LVS follow § 3 Para. 1 No. 1 LVV. The requirements for employment follow § 36 HG.
