The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill a a

Professorship for Neuroanatomy, focus on Neuroimmunology (W1 TT W2 / W2)

at the earliest possible date.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center OWL (UMC OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases".

The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research and teaching in its entirety (W2).
The requirements for the tenure professorship (W1 TT W2) are based on § 38a HG NRW. The Medical School OWL welcomes applications from personalities at an earlier stage of their career with a promising profile.

The prerequisites are:

  • university degree in human medicine or a biomedical natural science
  • a qualified, relevant doctorate in the area of expertise (W1 TT W2) or relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW (W2)
  • specialist medical qualification for anatomy or specialist anatomist
  • proven research experience in the field of neuroimmunology
  • very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding (W2)
  • experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funds (W2) or ideally initial experience in the (co-)acquisition and organization of third-party funds or third-party funded projects (W1)
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School OWL
  • (extensive) teaching experience and experience with innovative teaching formats in the subject to be represented, including courses in macroscopic and microscopic anatomy
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists (W2).

Your responsibilities will include representing the area of expertise in anatomy in its entirety in teaching, as well as research activities in the field of neuroimmunology. Active participation in strengthening the research profile of the Medical School OWL, in particular the focus areas "Brain- Impaired Participation" and "Microbial Diversity in the Human Habitat", is expected, as is active participation in future joint initiatives and research collaborations. The establishment of a neuroimmunological disease/animal model at the Bielefeld location is desired.
In close cooperation with the Anatomy and Cell Biology working group and others, you will be responsible for the conceptual co-design of innovative anatomy courses with a focus on neuroanatomical content. The professorship also offers great potential for future cooperation with clinical and/or neuroscientific working groups. Close scientific links to CeBiTec (Center for Biotechnology) and the Faculties of Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics are expressly desired.

Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience with (very) good communication and coordination skills.

The teaching load follows § 3 Para. 1 No. 1 LVV. The recruitment requirements are based on § 36 HG.

The appointment (if filled as a W1 professorship) is initially limited to three years with an option of extension for a further three years following a positive interim evaluation. In case of a positive tenure evaluation in the final year, the appointment will be transferred to an indefinite W2 professorship). The interim/tenure evaluation procedure is regulated in the statute for quality assurance of professorships with tenure track (TT). Tenure-track professorships are firmly established at Bielefeld University as an equal tenure option. Tenure-track professors are offered a target-group-specific personnel development program that provides support during the arrival phase and in preparation for the interim and tenure evaluation.
