Senate and Faculty Committees

Elections to the Senate and to the Faculty Committees in the status group of the students are annual events, the elections in the other three status groups take place every two years. The Electoral Regulations of Bielefeld University in the version of 15 November 2019 (German version only) shall apply.

The elections shall be held separately within the status groups as follows:

  • group of professors
  • group of academic staff
  • group of non-academic staff
  • group of students

The right of active and passive democratic participation can only be execised in one of the above mentioned status groups.

Eligible and entitled to vote are exclusively members of the university who are listed in one of the status groups mentioned above on the qualifying date for the elections (according to § 11 par. 1 sentence 1 i.c.w. § 9 par. 1 and 2 as well as § 79 par. 4 HG NRW). Furthermore it is compulsory to be listed in the electoral register for the respective election.

The deadline for handing in list proposals is over !

The list proposal of a status group shall contain enough candidates in order to occupy all seats available as well as the positions of the deputies.

 

According to § 11b HG, gender parity shall be taken into account for the the composition of the list proposals. In addition the requirements of the "Gesetzs zur Gleichstellung von Frauen und Männern für das Land Nordrhein-Westfalen (LGG)" in its latest version are to be followed (§ 9 Abs. 3 WO).

In its meeting of 10 February 2016 the Senate of Bielefeld University has decided that list proposals fulfill the requirement of gender parity if

  • for all elections the first two seats are equally occupied and
  • for the elections of the Senate in all status groups the first eight seats alltogether and
  • for the elections of the Faculty Committees in the group of the professors the first eight, in the group of the students the first six and in the other two groups the first four seats are equally occupied.
