Bie­le­feld Gra­dua­te School in Theo­re­ti­cal Sci­en­ces

Grants are awar­ded for re­se­arch stays of at least one month. A limit of the du­ra­ti­on is given by the ma­xi­mal amount of the grants (see Be­ne­fits). The re­se­arch stay shall be rea­li­zed until the re­spec­ti­ve ex­pi­ry date (see Ap­p­li­ca­ti­on Dead­line).

The BGTS Mo­bi­li­ty Grant con­sists of a one-​time award of up to 4,000 € for reim­bur­se­ment of tra­vel costs and local ex­pen­ses. Pay­ment in ad­van­ce is pos­si­ble to a large ex­tent. The grant hol­der is re­qui­red to pre­sent proof of costs to the BGTS of­fice. Costs not in­cur­red have to be paid back, if an ad­van­ce pay­ment has been made. (For­eign) health in­su­ran­ce can not be reim­bur­sed.

Eli­gi­ble for ap­p­li­ca­ti­on: Doc­to­ral stu­dents in the BGTS. In ju­sti­fied ex­cep­tio­nal cases also Mas­ter stu­dents who are in the final phase of their stu­dies can be pro­po­sed by their Mas­ter su­per­vi­sor. Per­sons who have re­cei­ved a BGTS Mo­bi­li­ty Grant be­fo­re are not eli­gi­ble to apply again.

Ap­p­li­ca­ti­on dead­line 15 No­vem­ber 2023: Grant can be used until 31 March 2025

Ap­p­li­ca­ti­on dead­line 30 April 2024: Grant can be used until 30 Sep­tem­ber 2025

Ap­p­li­ca­ti­on dead­line 15 No­vem­ber 2024: Grant can be used until 31 March 2026

Ap­p­li­ca­ti­on dead­line 30 April 2025: Grant can be used until 30 Sep­tem­ber 2026

Ap­p­li­ca­ti­ons should con­tain one PDF file con­sis­ting of the fol­lo­wing do­cu­ments:

• cover let­ter in­clu­ding re­se­arch in­te­rests and the aims of the re­se­arch stay, as well as the plan­ned time frame
• cur­ri­cu­lum vitae
• di­gi­tal co­pies of cer­ti­fi­ca­tes and tran­scripts
• in­vi­ta­ti­on from a sci­en­tist at a for­eign uni­ver­si­ty or re­se­arch in­sti­tu­te
• con­fir­ma­ti­on by the host in­sti­tu­te, that the ne­ces­sa­ry in­fra­st­ruc­tu­re for the plan­ned re­se­arch and stu­dies will be avail­able du­ring the stay.

In ad­di­ti­on, we ask for a let­ter of re­com­men­da­ti­on from the the­sis su­per­vi­sor. For re­a­sons of pri­va­cy, the let­ter should be sent to us by the su­per­vi­sor di­rect­ly (to bgts@uni-​bielefeld.de).

After the re­se­arch stay the grant hol­ders are asked to sub­mit a re­port to the BGTS of­fice. The re­port shall be sub­mit­ted not later than two months after the re­se­arch stay and shall com­pri­se one half to one DINA4 page.

The de­cis­i­on by the com­mit­tee is final. Legal pro­cee­dings are bar­red. In the event of misu­se, the grant has to be paid back. The grant may be with­drawn, if it is not used until the end of the re­spec­ti­ve ex­pi­ry date (see Ap­p­li­ca­ti­on Dead­lines).
