The El­lip­sis On­line Wri­ting Lab is your re­sour­ce for all things about wri­ting in Eng­lish. We ser­vice the en­ti­re Bie­le­feld Uni­ver­si­ty com­mu­ni­ty. Here you will find wri­ting re­sour­ces and in­st­ruc­tio­nal ma­te­ri­als as a free ser­vice.

We are now able to offer con­sul­ta­ti­ons in per­son or via Zoom/email.

Mis­si­on State­ment

Eng­lish has be­co­me, for all in­tents and pur­po­ses, the lin­gua fran­ca of the world­wi­de aca­de­mic com­mu­ni­ty. In many disci­pli­nes it is im­portant to be able to com­mu­ni­ca­te in Eng­lish in order to gain the wi­dest pos­si­ble au­di­ence for one’s work. In the in­crea­sing push for in­ter­na­tio­na­liza­ti­on, Eng­lish is im­pe­ra­ti­ve. How­e­ver, working in a lan­guage other than one’s na­ti­ve tongue can be daun­ting. It is our goal to help the uni­ver­si­ty com­mu­ni­ty ease into this tran­si­ti­on by hel­ping with all aspects of Eng­lish wri­ting. Our ser­vice is open to all mem­bers of the Uni­ver­si­ty com­mu­ni­ty.

What can I ex­pect at the El­lip­sis Wri­ting Cen­ter?
We help you in your wri­ting pro­cess and/or pro­vi­de stra­te­gies to iden­ti­fy lan­guage is­su­es in your wri­ting. Con­sul­ta­ti­ons will be held on Zoom or via Email. We offer these con­sul­ta­ti­ons to help you im­pro­ve your wri­ting and lan­guage skills.

Un­for­tu­n­a­te­ly we can­not help you with content-​related is­su­es or proofread your en­ti­re text. Ul­ti­ma­te­ly, you are re­spon­si­ble for your own work and gra­des have to be dis­cus­sed with your lec­tu­rers. We want to help you be­co­me a bet­ter wri­ter and pro­vi­de stra­te­gies so that you can iden­ti­fy lan­guage is­su­es yours­elf.

 

We can:

✓         pro­vi­de in-​person con­sul­ting ses­si­ons (via Zoom or in per­son)

✓         pro­vi­de writ­ten feed­back

✓         as­sist in iden­ti­fy­ing lan­guage and struc­tu­ral is­su­es in your wri­ting

✓         help with pro­blems spe­ci­fic to Ger­man spea­kers

✓         con­sult in the re­se­arch pro­cess

 

We can’t:

✘         cor­rect en­ti­re pa­pers/ MA/BA/PHD the­ses or dis­ser­ta­ti­ons

✘         proofread pa­pers (we only give lan­guage/struc­tu­ral feed­back)

✘         give content-​related feed­back
