Two con­sec­u­tive fund­ing phases in the Ex­cel­lence Ini­tia­tive al­lowed CITEC to as­sem­ble a strong en­vi­ron­ment of densely in­ter­act­ing re­search groups cov­er­ing a large array of top­ics that are key to Cog­ni­tive In­ter­ac­tion sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy. This has brought CITEC and Biele­feld Uni­ver­sity a high in­ter­na­tional pro­file in a tech­nol­ogy and re­search field that is of ut­most so­ci­etal im­por­tance and closely linked with AI, ro­bot­ics and the rapidly evolv­ing human-​technology in­ter­face.

CITEC now has shaped and ben­e­fits from a vi­brant local en­vi­ro­ment as well as a strong net­work of world-​wide re­search co­op­er­a­tions with lead­ing in­sti­tu­tions, groups and re­searchers. With its fa­cil­i­ties and in­no­va­tion labs, it of­fers a pre­mier in­fra­struc­ture that sup­ports lead­ing edge re­search and ef­fi­cient in­ter­ac­tions among par­tic­i­pat­ing groups, tai­lored to the spe­cific needs of highly inter-​ and trans­dis­ci­pli­nary re­search.

On March 9, 2018, mem­bers and alumni cel­e­brated the tenth an­niver­sary of the Clus­ter of Ex­cel­lence CITEC. The an­niver­sary cel­e­bra­tion was also at­tended by Is­abel Pfeiffer-​Poensgen, Min­is­ter for Cul­ture and Sci­ence in NRW.
